We look at the five main global persecutions of Christianity over 20 centuries – the Roman, Islamic, Mongol, Christian and Atheistic persecutions. All last for more than one generation. All cover a vast tract of the known world at the time. And all leave Christianity different than before. We show how persecution can kill the church – it does not always revive it as some claim. We seek to make Christian leaders realistic as well as resilient in the face of the challenges of persecution. We learn from history how the persecutor uses us to kill our own churches.
